UVM
IntroductionI chose UVM because there are spots for everyone to fit in, no matter what your interests or personality. Also, Burlington is pretty much the ultimate college town - UVM is one of four here, and it's in a beautiful setting between the mountains and the lake with tons of outdoor activities around.
However, you have to be ready to be very, very cold. There are days in the dead of winter when the temperatures don't get out of the single digits. If you don't ski, you'll probably have to learn because that's what about 90% of the campus does on the weekends between late October and April (during the day anyway, most people rage it at night).
Campus Life and Social LifeUVM has had the reputation as a party school for a long time, but the administration is trying to curb that. Therefore, the on-campus policies are very strict. For example, no alcohol is allowed in the dorms - even if the student is 21. In addition, everyone is required to live on campus for their first two years. Pretty much everyone moves off campus into one of the countless rental houses between campus and downtown. This is where most of the parties take place. Also, Montreal, which is pretty much the chillest city ever, is only a ninety-minute drive.
As for sports, hockey and basketball get a lot of attention and the games are lots of fun to go through, and students get free tickets. Other than that, it's not a jock school.
The SGA sponsers tons of clubs including club sport teams, radio, environmental clubs, etc.
The weekends are fun. About 75% of kids are from out-of-state so people don't go home often. Kids go downtown, to house parties, and have a generally good time on Friday and Saturday (and sometimes Thursday) nights.

AcademicsIt's a major university, so there are majors for everyone. The Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Biology, Recreation Management, and Sociology departments are of particular note.
What is dissapointing is that there is no Communications department, which is surprising when considering that we are a pretty big school.
UVM has become increasingly selective over the past few years. For the class of 2011, the admission rate has dropped to about 60%. We are often a safety for kids applying to ivy league schools, so the student body is increasingly intellegent, as well. I know kids that turned down places like Cornell, Lehigh, Villanova, and UVA to come here.
I've had pretty good professors, but I've heard of some bad ones, like any other school.
Student BodyThis place is pretty white - somewhere in the 90% range... it's Vermont. So diversity is lacking but there are efforts to change that.
People here like to party. You'll have no trouble finding something to do on the weekends. Period. Lots of drinking and pot.
As I've said before, there are a ton of clubs and people can find activities no matter what their interests are.
In Closing...Again, it's really, really, really cold.
