Amazing!

Rating: 5/5 (28 ratings)
Introduction
The University of Virginia is one of the best schools in the nation. We have world-class faculty (Poet Laureates, Nobel Prize Laureates, and did I mentioned Julian Bond, President of the NAACP?), distinguished alumni (everyone from Katie Couric to Edgar Allen Poe to Tina Fey), and the most gorgeous campus you'll ever see (designed by Thomas Jefferson himself). UVA is a place for students who want to have their cake and eat it, too. We can drink and party with the best of 'em, but we recently defeated the likes of Harvard and Yale with our Mock Trial team to win the national championship. We can beat the Florida State Seminoles at football, the North Carolina Tarheels at basketball, and EVERYONE at Lacrosse (we're ranked #1)--and still go on to the highest graduate rate of any public university in America, while getting into top graduate schools at an astounding rate. If you want to have an amazing time in college while still getting a first-rate education, UVA is for you.

Campus Life and Social Life
There are endless activities at UVA. The downtown mall offers ice skating, movies, and shops, and the Corner offers restaurants and bars. Virginia Beach and DC are just a short trip away, and the Blue Ridge mountains are available if hiking, skiing, or just communing with nature suits you. UVA is full of fun traditions, like our secret societies and streaking the lawn. The Greek scene is big, but fun for everyone. You don't have to be a typical sororities or frat boy to get involved in a sorority or fraternity, and many Greek parties are open if you want to party without being too committed. It's definitely not Greek or geek here. Sports games are huge--everyone loves football and basketball! Some of us show up to cheer on the 'Hoos decked out in all orange, while others prefer the more traditional ties and sundresses, but it's no matter--'HOOS ROCK, no matter how you're dressed. There's a club for everyone, and they're all very active. In short, whatever you want to do--party, volunteer, drink, and watch sports, shop, eats, or just chill with your friends--you can do it at UVA.
Academics
Academics are world-class here at UVA. As an Echols Scholar, I have priority registration and an open curriculum, so I am always able to get my classes--though I rarely see others having trouble. Academics are serious, don't expect to coast through your time here just because the social scene is so awesome. The workload is tough, but by no means overwhelming. I am taking history and humanities courses, and I like them quite a bit.

Student Body
I won't lie--we are a good looking school. Most girls are thin, well-dressed, and carry a designer purse. But there's nothing wrong with that! We know how to take care of ourselves. Polo shirts, skirts, sundresses, flip-flops, and blazers are big. Most girls, myself included, put a lot of effort into looking nice each day, though that doesn't mean we won't show up to class in our PJs on a lazy Friday morning. The guys are handsome and friendly and often hold doors or pull our chairs. I LOVE the Southern atmosphere, it isn't stifling but it's so lovely and friendly. By and large, we are the people from high school who got smashed at a party the night before our Calculus finals and still got As. But never judge a book by its cover--we're all (okay, mostly) friendly and intelligent. And being as large as we are (12,000), you can find your type, no matter what it is.

In Closing...
UVA is the best school in the world and I'd never want to be anywhere else. WA-HOO-WAH!
