I'm just a young'un!

Rating: 1.1/5 (59 ratings)
Introduction
I’m a freshman. My major is going to be nursing and possibly Spanish as well. I came a month early and did this thing called early fall start where it’s kind of an interim period between the summer quarter and fall quarter. It’s a month’s time. And you come and just take one class intensively, so you just get 5 credits for it. They put all the freshman who want to do it in one dorm. It was really fun, I had a forced triple, so there was 3 of us in a room.

Campus Life and Social Life
The dorms that they put most of the freshman in are really small and there kind of off campus so it’s not as nice.

I didn’t really have any scary dorm stories from freshman year. The RA’s are always cracking down the first month. Kids try to bring alcohol and stuff in and then you get written up. Some people got kicked out. One of my roommates had a boyfriend so sometimes it would be awkward coming home.

It’s hard to develop the balance between it being your room and also having to share it with 2 other people.

I live off campus now and I have 3 roommates.
Academics
We’re pretty big on diversity I feel like. We aren’t hugely diverse. We have a lot of Asians. I know for admission they care a lot about diversity and are trying to expand that as much as possible.

It wasn’t too hard to get in here. You do have to have a good GPA and SAT scores. It wasn’t super stressed.

I love the campus. When I first came as a freshman I thought that I was never going to learn where things are. It took me so long, but the buildings here are beautiful. It’s so nice. We have a lot of trees and tons of grass and beautiful buildings. We have some really old ones and really modern ones.

I’ve never tried to get into a bar. I’m not a big partier. When I came freshman year there was a bunch of Greek parties before school even started down on frat row. It’s totally easy to find out where the parties are and go.

Student Body
The U-pass is something they send to you automatically no matter what. And then if you don’t want it, you have to return it. It’s a great thing for freshman because parking on campus is super expensive. They really try to deter you from bringing your car. So they give you this pass and you can ride all the buses around here. It’s great. Once you get the bus system down it’s nice. It’s only $40 for the whole quarter. I know a lot of freshman friends use it all the time.

I usually don’t go downtown that often. We have great shows that come in or concerts. It’s really fun to be so close that you can just drive down there. It’s really beautiful too at night. They have lots of cool shops and stuff. I maybe go down there, once or twice a month.

In Closing...
It’s kind of fun as a freshman because people don’t really know you yet, so people are more interested in getting to know you and showing you around. There’s a lot of great people here.

It not that big of deal if you are a freshman and hanging out with a junior or senior. It’s fun and it’s great to get to know upperclassmen.
