IntroductionI’m a comparative history major at the University of Washington.
I really wanted to go here. It was somewhat competitive. I had pretty good grades from high school and pretty go SAT scores.
I feel like if you want challenging classes you can find challenging classes here, but overall nothing has been too hard or too easy. I think the UDUB is really great because you can find an area that suits you.
There are so many different classes and so many different options.
I find it pretty challenging here. I’ve found a major that I enjoy and I’ve found coursework that suits me and challenges me in the way I want to be challenged.
Campus Life and Social LifeI feel like there isn’t really an average UDUB student. You find a lot of people walking around here in sweatshirts, jeans and flip-flops. You also find people who get really, really dressed up. It really just depends. I think that people here just feel free to go with whatever style they are comfortable with and I really like that.
There’s some diversity at the university of Washington, probably not as much as you would find at other places in the country. But Seattle is really not that diverse of a city.
I think way of the majority is from Washington. It’s really fun to meet people who are out of state as well.

AcademicsI feel like there are a lot of classes here that are huge, huge lectures, but most of them are 100 level classes. Once you get past that I have classes where it’s the professor and 10 or 15 students.
At the same time, I’m in a lecture with about 200 students and there’s TA’s and you go to lecture 3 times a week and you have a quiz section twice a week with a TA.
Student BodyI think that Huskie pride is big, it’s a really big school, and some people are totally into sports and totally into "GO DOGS" And other people really couldn't care less and don’t know what’s going on with sports or stuff like that. I find myself in the middle, I go to football games, basketball games for fun, but I’m not too into it. Some people are over the top though.I wouldn’t say most people would paint their faces and bodies at a game. Some do, those are the people you see on camera.
In Closing...The campus is really awesome. I really enjoy being on campus when I have classes. Other than that I really stay off campus. I live off campus, I spend a lot of time in the city.
Seattle is really great because it really easy to get out of the city. There’s mountains nearby, there’s beaches nearby, there’s water nearby, it’s really awesome. You can do pretty much whatever you want outdoorsy. And that’s really great.
I also enjoy going up to Canada, going to Vancouver, there’s great shopping up there. It’s really fun. I would say the party scene here is more into drinking and less into drugs. I think you can find drugs, but from what I’ve seen it’s more just drinking.
If you live in a fraternity or sorority there’s going to be lots and lots of house parties. If it’s a Saturday night you can usually find a party pretty close to campus. There’s also a ton of bars around here.
The area around the school, the U-district, it totally caters to students. There’s lots of fun things to do including places to go, stuff like that.
