Madtown is the best value around
IntroductionLike everyone says, Madison is a great mix of academic and extracurricular activities. You need to be someone who can balance work and play. I graduated in '95 and have been extremely satisfied with the preparation the school gave me for my life. That said, if you are someone who needs a lot of hand-holding and direction from others, this school may not be for you. A friend of mine tried twice unsuccessfully to graduate, but the lack of advising and the atmosphere proved too much for her. I knew several people on the 5+ year plan.
Campus Life and Social LifeWeekends are crazy. Never enough money or time. Many great bars such as the Plaza, Paul's Club, Amy's, Paradise etc. I've never seen people who can pound beer faster than the Wisco lot. And the sports are great. The Football games are pure pandemonium. The Badgers seemed to have gone from the lovable losers to a contender in all of their sports, thanks to Barry Alverez. As an non-varsity athlete, I wish I had participated more in Hoofers. Overall, I didn't participate in many clubs, which I probably should've, but I did work for the Badger Herald for a while. Really enjoyed it.

AcademicsAcademically, all I can say is wow. What a great mix. I had classes in many departments, in a variety of interests from Scandinavian Literature to Business Strategy. Although the classes are large, you can stand out if you try. The grading is fair and if you do the work, you can get A's and B's.
Student BodyThere is no typical student. I had so many circles of friends. Art students, business students, alternative, jocks, international, freaks, geeks and more. I went between the Business and Humanities buildings, so needless to say I had a good mix of left and right-wingers. It was great banter with both groups, hence why I'm probably a centrist today.
The worst part is graduation —everyone scatters throughout the globe. I've managed to keep a couple good friends.
In Closing...I'm not sure I could get into to Wisco today —it keeps getting harder to get in. Keep up the great work!
