Nice Taste of The Real World
IntroductionUW-Milwaukee is the essential school for becoming an individual. There is always something going on at the campus and in the city itself.
Campus Life and Social LifeThis is definetly not a suitcase school! Parties can be found any day of the week, the only downside being the walk that can be involved. Campus programming sometimes is a bit dry and unpublicized unless you live at the Student Union, but nonetheless, there are a lot of different kinds of entertainment available. National bands are common, even to campus.

AcademicsIn my experience, the professors are usually pretty personable characters. They are always willing to meet with students invidually. In a lot of classes, all of the course content is posted online along with student progress. There is little room for uncertainity. A downside is the class size. A majority of the first two years will be spent in lecture halls with smaller discussion groups led by T.A.'s. Past that fact, the University offers a broad range of classes for general education requirements which allows students to take unconventional exploratory classes, like a course on Rain and Snow! The Peck School of the Arts has a great reputation with access to other artists in the area.
Student BodyThe typical student at UWM will be someone who has to work to get by. A lot of students have jobs for one reason or another. The biggest draw of students are from Southeastern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois, but students do come from all over the world and U.S. It isn't uncommon to have a few students from different countries in a class. Lots of students are smokers. The mentality is school in the day, party at night.
In Closing...The biggest negative for the school is the ever so slow administration. It takes weeks for processing anything and often times the student workers who handle inquiries are little to no help.
