Stuff you should know

Rating: 2/5 (22 ratings)
Introduction
This school is part of the University of Wisconsin system. It's credits are pretty much referrable within the system and it is probably the most respected school in general other than Madison. However, the school is very good at making itself look better than it really is. They have the basics of a University. Classes, dorms, extracurricular activities. But unless you want to rip off the consumers (ex: the students, the taxpayers of Wisconsin) by failing to pay attention to detail, by refusing to care about the mental health of the student, then this is the school for you. The school is affordable, and it is easy to be accepted in to. But other than that there are very little positive attributes to list.

Campus Life and Social Life
There are house parties. Small get-togethers that are used to raise money. These happen Thursday and Friday nights, but mostly Thursdays, because EVERYONE goes home. The dorms are e m p t y from Friday night to Sunday night. This is not an exaggeration. There is almost nothing to do, and the school just tries to ignore it. It is a suitcase school.

The weekends suck. The campus is NOT in downtown Milwaukee. There is nothing to do within 5 minutes that doesnt include eating. Don't think that you'll be able to take the bus downtown to see a show all the time, because you won't want to.

Academics
The architecture, business, and biology departments are among the best academic programs UWM has to offer. The other departments all lack in some respect or another, but all-in-all, the school is pretty well put together. The T.A.s are not as bad as they sound when you're in H.S. They're generally friendly and easy to understand, or they will help you to understand them.

Student Body
The typical students include:
-The "smarter" students from your H.S. class who comes to UWM because of financing.
-The student who needs to work through college and needs to live at home because they don't have enough money to stay at school and pay. This encompasses a variety of G.P.A.s.
-The student from your H.S. class who didn't do enough to get into Madison, but still wants to party. We do that. The first two years are EXACTLY like H.S. There are people who attend UWM who still live with their parents and live under their parents wings, who have not matured enough to go into the real world yet.

In Closing...
The food in the cafeteria is a huge ripoff, and the dorms are as well. If you know how to cook and can live on your own, life in an apartment. There is more than enough beautiful housing for rent within three blocks of campus.

It is a really safe campus, given that it is in a relatively large city. The city is actually 10 minutes away, because the campus is really in a suburb, but its really nice.
