Not all its cracked up to be...
IntroductionI chose Valpo because it was close to home and small, but after considering transfering a few times I joined a sorority and decided to endure the pain and stay here. A lot of students come from wealthy families and have a strong religious background. There are times when I feel like other students think I am not good enough because I don't have money and don't go to church, but I clearly don't hang out with them!
Campus Life and Social LifeGreek life has made my time here worthwhile. Before I joined a sorority, I found it difficult to get out and meet people because the social life kind of sucks (its a dry campus FYI!). Football sucks, basketball can be a hit or miss but it is always entertaining. Clubs-I dont really know much about because I do a lot with my sorority. Weekends are a hit and miss as well. I always have something to do because of the social aspect of Greek life. Bars suck in Valpo, and you are usually surrounded by creepy townies.

AcademicsThe education department is in the process of being revamped, so it kinda sucks right now. I hear the business, arts, and nursing are really good departments. The professors are all very personable. They want to get to know you on a personal level, so much that they give you their home address, home phone, and cell phone numbers. The professors in the Ed. Department (my major!) are awesome. I have never had a TA, so I am pretty sure they are rare on this campus. Workload is pretty large in most classes, but a lot of the time it is busy work, unless it is in your major.
Student BodyMost of the students are from the Midwest. Like I said before, a large amount of the students come from wealthy families, and have a strong religious background. It is hard to describe a typical student because it's like if you aren't one way, you are the complete opposite.
In Closing...Come on a few visit days. Try and plan a visit overnight or over a weekend to really get a feel for the social and academic aspects.
