Lots of Greeks

Rating: 1/5 (46 ratings)
Introduction
I’m from New Orleans and I didn’t want to go somewhere that was too far up north, because I’m impartial to the cold. But I really liked Vanderbilt because it seemed like a good balance between work and play and it was even a balance between a lot of people from different places. Like, I knew I wanted to go out of State, but Vanderbilt had more of like a geographic diversity that I wouldn’t have gotten at a State School elsewhere.

Campus Life and Social Life
I think it’s like 50% of girls and about 30% of guys are Greek and I love being in a sorority, like I went to an all girls school in high school and I like, almost view it as an extension of that because it’s just you know the camaraderie of all the girls together and like you have parties but, you do other things like that too. Frat parties, like fraternities, I wouldn’t say there quite as exclusive, cause it is like a smaller percentage of people in it. And they’re open and I have friends who are not in sororities that still go to fraternity parties and the like. I mean with sororities – it maybe a little more exclusive but I wouldn’t say so much fraternities.

Academics
I’m double majoring in Chemistry and Philosophy and it is a lot of work. I’m not gonna kid anyone at Vanderbilt you work hard and play hard but sometimes especially this year I feel like I’ve been working a little harder – I think it has to do with Vanderbilt trying to move up in the rankings that their really trying to push the students to do the best that they can cause most people here wont settle for C’s and stuff so they’ll just end working harder. I mean it’s good to drive you, sometimes it takes you a little a back when you realize the hours you’re putting in but you also get the trade off like having really great professors. I’ve been really impressed with all of my professors here and they’ve been really approachable. I mean I do Undergraduate research in the medical center, which is an opportunity that not many Universities will afford you, especially as a sophomore.

Student Body
The term for Vandy Girl probably refers to you know just a cute girl in good shape, she’s got a lot going for her, she comes from a good family, she’s working hard, she’s not here to get her MRS. But maybe she has also the stereotype to be a little ditzy. Maybe she like, likes Hillary Duff a little too much. But I mean I don’t think it’s a negative stereotype I just think it’s a type of girl who has a lot of things going for her and will do well because of it. The girls here are so much cuter than the guys – just a fact. They’re nice guys, most of them have been brought up well, they’re gentlemen. But the girls are still cuter.

In Closing...
I wouldn’t say that it’s a straight forward conservative as people think because a lot of times I think college campuses are a little on the liberal side as it is.
