School Spirit and Nice Girls
Rating: 2.3/5 (3 ratings)
IntroductionNashville’s just like a really cool city. I feel like a lot of people don’t recognize that. Like all my friends back home just assume its some tiny little town in the middle of nowhere but it’s like a really big, vibrant city and there’s a lot to do here and you wont get bored. I would say this is a very conservative campus, which kind of surprised me when I got here. Although I don’t think it really should have. Cause I was coming from a school where everyone was really liberal and I myself am a very liberal person to so it was kind of surprising when I got here, you get used to it after a while and for me I learned to take everything with a grain of salt.
Campus Life and Social LifeI’d say there’s a decent amount of school spirit, I mean like there are a lot of people that will come out to our track meets. A lot more than would come out to my track meets in high school which is really impressive to me because I think that track is probably not the best spectator sport ever, When I was a freshman I lived over in Vandy Barnard which is right in the middle of campus and I really liked that because I was close to all my academic buildings- Sarat and all that. So everything I need to be close to is right next to which is good. You can catch a show any night of the week you want anywhere, Not even for that much – it wont be like necessarily a group you’ve heard of but it probably would be good. I’ve gone to a couple of concerts here, I mean they’ve got – over the summer, they’ve got some really cool things at River Station and stuff like that. But unfortunately we don’t really get to take advantage of that cause were only at school in the fall and the winter. But, I’d say it’s a pretty good social scene. I like it a lot here.
AcademicsI’d say my more difficult major is probably English because I finished my History major pretty quickly. There was a lot more requirements for English than there are for History, I wouldn’t say that they're extremely difficult but that’s I don’t know those are two of my really big passions. They’ve always been passions of mine so I don’t think it’s like a terrible amount of work for me to do – to work on both of those. I can usually get my work done during the day because we have class – I only have class from an hour and a half on Tuesday, Thursday – so I have a big block of time where I can get work done during the day. So if I do want to go out and night or whatever and have a good time, just hang out with people I’m able to.
Student BodyThe girls at Vanderbilt are all really nice and like a lot more welcoming than the girls at my high school which I feel is kind of a surprise to me when I got here. My girlfriend’s great, I’ve been dating her for about 6 months and that’s been going really well.
In Closing...Greek life is a huge part of this campus, there’s no doubt about that. But I don’t think that – I’ve never felt pressured to be a member of the Greek system as an independent – it doesn’t really bother me at all. That’s there choice. That’s there prerogative. I can still go to Frat parties if I want to most of the time because you always know someone in one of the fraternities or whatever so its not really that big of a deal.
