Smart Kids
IntroductionWhen I first got here I thought it was gorgeous like I though its actually perfection as to what I expected out of a college living situation like it’s beautiful here – magnolia tree, which we only have in the North East, and everyone’s tanned and really nice and cute. That was nice. There probably a lot more preppy of a student body than I expected but you know I’ve been able to adjust to that.
Campus Life and Social LifeMy fall semester of sophomore year I found a house that I really liked and I love the girls and I’m like really happy that I’m in a sorority now and for the most part, Greek life, its really present on the campus, you kind of definitely see it everywhere, everyone’s sporting a sorority shirt or talking about what Frat party they were at the weekend before. So its definitely very present so be prepared for that if you’re coming here. There’s a big party scene on campus, you don’t really have to go anywhere else, you can still have a good time here. Thursday night is really big to go downtown – that’s become my favorite night, a lot of people do that. Its kind of nice cause after a while you kind of see the same people and I like that – it kind of becomes a little party family. It’s really fun. I have a lot of fun here. We kind of like going to places where you can dance and more of like a hip hop I guess more of a little house music type of scene so if people are doing Country Western, I’m not really aware of it. I have a lot of friends that are independent and you can either hang out with your friends that are in Greek life or not. There’s definitely other things to do. A lot of people put on performances every week – we have like concerts that come. There’s a lot of intramural sports – I’m in an improv comedy group I do that and like a lot of really cool people doing that so there’s definitely a way to get involved people have fun. I know a lot of people are really into basketball. Like I used to go to basically all the games last year. I’m probably not the sportiest of people but I do enjoy going to like the occasionally basketball game or football game or I guess baseball. Like there are definitely sports here. Its whether you choose to go and hang out.

AcademicsWhen you get here and everyone is sort of like the best of the best, which is true. There’s a lot of like really Smart Kids here, which come from good families and stuff. It’s definitely present on campus. But I think that’s really expected from any college or University that’s top 20. you have Peabody, which is where we are now and that’s the school of education and nursing and Arts and Science which basically umbrellas liberal arts and sciences and pre-med. And there’s the school of engineering, which is engineering and there’s Blair, which is the school of music. Everyone kind of hangs out together. But yeah, its really only divided by kind of what you study. These are basically people you’re gonna walk on graduation day with. When you apply, you apply to Arts and Science, Engineering, or Peabody or Blair and then you have until you’re sophomore year around Spring Break time to decide .you major. Like unless you’re in the school of engineering, like you usually pick BME, which is Bio Medical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. But arts and science is pretty lax.
Student BodyWe talk a lot about diversity when you get here and stuff and its probably not as diverse if you’re coming from the North East but you definitely have a bunch of different people who are into a bunch of different things and I think that’s pretty cool and a lot of what the country is really represented, which I don’t think you get a lot and other places, like I know people from Alaska and Florida and Texas and New York and New Jersey and places like that. A lot of people that you expect on college campuses to be like a really liberal sort of campus setting and here it’s a little bit more conservative. I’m pretty liberal and came here, didn’t really see as much liberal values – but you know it kind of sparks debate. So it’s kind of helped me out in that sense.
In Closing...We party hard, but we study hard too. So definitely a lot of hours spent on work. I’m really jealous of all the people that can just party all the time. That’s not me. Its definitely a challenge like it’s kind of hard when your choosing classes and stuff cause at some point you kind of want to get the easy class. It’s been pretty rewarding. A lot of classes I’ve taken – I’ve really enjoyed them. They’ve been really good. I’ve had like interesting professors. Some others like the big lecture classes, like I think that’s kind of the downfall. It’s kind of hard to get the attention when you want from your professors cause there’s so- much and it’s hard for them to focus on 1 student.
