“Work Hard, Play Hard”

Rating: 4/5 (86 ratings)
Introduction
I chose to come to Vanderbilt because it embodied everything I wanted in a college. It’s beautiful – somewhat of an Urban setting yet not overwhelming, a fantastic academic reputation and it’s just everything I wanted. It is more conservative than where I come from so I had to get used to that but it’s really not a big deal. If you have your own beliefs then people respect that.

Campus Life and Social Life
Greek life is very prominent at Vanderbilt. I myself, am in a sorority, Delta Delta Delta and its just so much fun before I came here I never envisioned myself in a sorority but the social life is great with it and I’ve met so many friends through it. Frat parties are very common at Vanderbilt. Every single Frat is different. It’s a great chance to meet your friends, dance, hang out, listen to good music. A lot of the times they have great bands. Just a fun thing to do on the weekend. Also at Vanderbilt you have a chance to choose between whether you want a single room, by your self, or a double with a roommate. And I thought that was a fantastic choice I pondered the single life but I decided to be more social. You can go to the restaurant on campus called the pub, you can eat at the Rand, which is the dining hall and get anything from home-style food to Mexican food and also Vanderbilt has started to expand meal money on the card you carry around to outside restaurants at Vanderbilt like Chili’s and Penerra and many other restaurants of the sort.

Academics
Academics at Vanderbilt are wonderful. You drop the name of Vanderbilt anywhere and they know, they know about it. I believe its number 18 in the country. Just a fantastic school. I’ve learned so much and I’m taking classes that truly interest me. I’ve never met such smart people in my life, yet they’re not pompous and they’d be willing to talk to you after class or give you extra help. The engineering school is known to be very hard – lots of thermo-dynamic circuits, not my cup of tea.

Student Body
I walk everywhere. Some people take bikes but I find the walks very nice, the natures beautiful here, its sunny and walking to class is no big deal. I myself belong to Peabody campus, which the Peabody School of Teaching and that is where my major is, Human Organizational Development. Peabody houses a lot of other majors of the sort like secondary education and health services, etcetera. The best teaching college in the country and HOD is known to be one of the highest paying majors outside of college.

In Closing...
At Vanderbilt we have a saying: “Work Hard, Play Hard”, I’ve found this to be very true and very prominent around campus. I’ve never met so many people who work so hard at classes and then just go out on the weekends and it’s a great time and a great mix. I believe that its fairly difficult to get into Vanderbilt – you have to have great SAT scores, great high school record be important in your class – be in the top 20 percent at least and be a leader and interesting person.
