A friendly environment
IntroductionWhen I first got here my overall impression was just the beautiful scenery. Blacksburg is considered the biggest town in VA. , but it is known for its friendly environment. We have a little downtown Blacksburg area where we actually have a place called Kent Square. There are actually new organizations and companies that work there. Also there are little areas where there are dance clubs, there are about 2 dance clubs here. There are also a lot of restaurants available. And Christiansburg is not too far away from Blacksburg where pretty much all of the shopping facilities are. It’s incredibly easy to find your way around campus because there’s actually the Blacksburg transit, which is bus system. There’s actually the Hokie express, which will take you around anywhere you want to go on campus. They can take you all the way to Christiansburg and back and the bus system is every 15 mins. and you can catch them in front of Burroughs Hall.
Campus Life and Social LifeThe facilities are great because we have housekeeping services that come in and they clean our bathrooms every week, they clean out the hallways and we actually have a kitchen facility. So we share only 1 kitchen on each hallway. And we also have only one bathroom for each suite. It’s incredibly easy to meet people here because there are so many clubs and organizations around on campus. There’s no way that you can get lost in this community because there’s always someone to talk to. Someone to hang out with. The food here, there’s such a great variety. There’s actually a new place called West End Market and they serve lobster, grilled chicken, steak. You name it they’ve got it. They have wraps, different salads that are available. And then there’s Dietrich which is like an all you can eat place. You can go to different places around there and it’s actually different types of food. A Mexican place, an Italian place, Chinese food.

AcademicsThere’s so many different majors here on campus. Some of the most popular are business, communication, and engineering. VA Tech is definitely known for its engineering school and actually made top ranking in the US just recently. Engineering is the toughest major here. I know several engineers who work hours upon hours everyday to work on projects and then have the most number of projects that are due by the end of the semester. Your freshman year, they’re trying to weed out the most serious on campus. So you’ll actually have a lot of course hours to take during the semester. You have a lot of projects that are due. It’s a lot of group work that’s involved, but its also the professors are really helpful to work with you.
Student BodyBlacksburg is considered the biggest town in VA. , but it is known for its friendly environment. We have a little downtown Blacksburg area where we actually have a place called Kent Square. There are actually new organizations and companies that work there. The Greek life actually works on campus with different philanthropies. You can actually see the pride the have when they were the Greek letters around campus and they’re actually part of the whole community.
In Closing...Football, that’s the first thing people think of when they think of VA. Tech. In the past few years, our VA. Tech football team has really moved up in the rankings. With the football community here, there’s so much atmosphere. Whenever you go to a football game you can hear the roar of the crowd from miles away. It sounds like thunder when you’re not in the stadium. There’s this tradition that right before the team runs on the field, they play enter sandman and the whole student section just jumps up and down. And you start to get a little dizzy when you look at it right away.
