A huge school

Rating: 1/5 (60 ratings)
Introduction
I chose Virginia Tech because I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. Picking such a huge school is ideal for students in that situation because it allows you to explore major fields and career options. Also, Virginia Tech has the name recognition that will become important to all students when they want to enter the job market. People immediately know what you're talking about when you say Virginia Tech.

Campus Life and Social Life
The absolute best part of Virginia Tech (besides academics, of course) is the FOOTBALL! Even if you think you don't like football, being with 65,000 of your closest friends in Lane Stadium is the most amazing experience in the world. Blacksburg truly is a drinking town with a football problem.

Academics
Obviously, Virginia Tech is widely known for its engineering department, but that's not all VT has to offer. I am a Biological Sciences major and I know that the science programs here are intense and extremely challenging, but also extremely rewarding. All the professors I have experienced are so helpful and really do genuinely care about their students, and helping them succeed.

Student Body
I would say most students here are from Virginia or the close surrounding states, but I have met students from across the country, as well as international students. There is no typical student here, the campus is very diverse and everyone here celebrates the diversity. Being that it’s a "Tech" school, there's significantly more boys than girls, and its great.

In Closing...
Virginia Tech is the best of both worlds. I was scared to come here because its so big, but I have never felt as if I were just a number. The size allows for exploration and lots of socializing. You'll definitely expand your horizons with the people you meet. The football is absolutely breath-taking and the academics are wonderful as well. You will love it, without a doubt.
