Your Only Valid Choice...

IntroductionIf you are 90% sure of what you actually want to study in college (let's face it, you can't really be 100% sure of what you want to do at 18 years old, but you can have some direction - the next 5 years of your life are going to change dramatically - mostly for the good), make sure that you apply to colleges that specialize in your area. For instance, WSU is most noted for its awesome Pharmacy Program, it's broadcasting/communications degree, agriculture, interior design, nursing program, and architecture. If you want to do something specific, then go somewhere that offers your specific degree. But, if you don't know what you want to do, then spend your first two years taking general classes, and a few others that you may be interested in - then you can choose from there. I personally chose Washington State because of its music program, and the professors that are capable of teaching jazz saxophone. I ended up staying in that program over the course of my college career, but changed emphasis - which is completely normal for college students. For the record - stay away from an elementary education degree from Washington State - the program is trying to get better, but there are so many irrelevant classes - make sure to specialize if you go into teaching (meaning, plan on only getting your teaching certificate with an emphasis in history, math, or english - that way you only spend half of your time in the education department).
Campus Life and Social LifeThe great thing about Washington State is the closeness of the student body. You can really involve yourself in any part of campus that you want to - parties, intramural sports (which ROCK at Wazzu), different art events, community events, etc. The weekends at WSU are filled with any college scene you can imagine - just like any campus there are parties. There are also concerts, places to play sports with friends, formal dances and fun activities, and of course all kinds of sporting events. I'll tell you - I went to every football game during my college career, but the sport that was the most fun to attend was the WSU lacrosse team. They are just a men's club team that plays on odd days throughout the spring - but man they are FUN TO WATCH!!!

AcademicsThere are many great departments, including: Engineering, Architecture, Genetics, Chemistry (and basically the rest of the sciences), Music, Drama, Interior Design, Communications, Pharmacy, Agriculture, Business (including Marketing, Business Management, Bus. Law, etc.) and many more, I'm sure.
I don't know about these departments: English, History, Women's Studies, Psychology, Philosophy, and some others.
Stay away from: Elementary Education!! Also - stay away from Music Education, unless you want to study jazz (this major takes WAY TOO LONG, and doesn't get you very far in the 5 years it will take you to get your undergraduate degree).
The workload is anything that you want to make it. You'll study about 20 hours a week if you want to get B's and A's, or you can not study much at all and still pass some classes. Either way - you're going to college, that's part of what you are paying for - a degree to get you a better paying job/career than without a degree.
Stay in the top category of majors, and I'm sure you'll enjoy 90% of your professors. I can't say that about the middle group or the last group - those areas are always about 50%.
Student BodyThe typical student at Washington State will stay in the dorm their freshman year. They'll meet tens, maybe even hundreds of new students where you will find your 5 or so best friends. They may move off campus the following year, or maybe into the greek system (quite a big, and fun greek system WSU has). They will be involved in some extra-curricular activity around campus, and invite all of their friends to come - half of them will, while the other half attend a late-night lab class. The typical student will go to at least one big party at WSU, and then by the time they leave, they'll figure out that while they are fun, there are more important things in life. The typical student absolutely loves WSU - they may not LOVE Pullman (the city where WAZZU lies), but they will have very fond memories of WSU.
In Closing...I wouldn't trade going to WSU for anything. The students there are kind (there's always your jerks at the big universities, but they should stay out of your hair), and they are fun to be around. Being in a small, college-town really unites the students together. It's fun to attend all kinds of sporting events, get involved in intramural sports, and attend a few concerts or comedy shows every now and then. All-in-all, WSU is a great university where you will thrive as a young adult.
