A Little Laid Back

Rating: 1/5 (20 ratings)
Introduction
I got a really good feel when I first visited this school. The campus here is beautiful. All the buildings have that traditional college-feel. When I first came on this campus I was just blown away. And it’s not a huge campus but it’s not extremely small either, you definitely feel comfortable walking around and everything. Of all the schools that I visited, I just felt really welcomed here and I felt like the students and the faculty really cared about what they were doing here. It’s definitely a little bit of a slower pace, a little more relaxed. People aren’t as uptight as they are on the East Coast.

Campus Life and Social Life
As far as the party scene goes, you can start with your traditional fraternity parties, but that gets a little tiring after awhile so some people like to go to The Loop and Central West End. There’s also LeKleide’s Landing which has a number of different bars and clubs and sometimes groups will sponsor trips down there. They’ll have buses coming from right the student center on Thursday night so that you don’t have to worry about transportation.
Academics
I’ve had really great experiences with arts and sciences there’s a lot of different departments. There’s a variety of classes. Our required courses are pretty flexible. We have something called the cluster system so even though you have to take some requirements in certain academic areas, you don’t have to take Chemistry, you don’t have to take a particular Math course. There’s a lot of flexibility. The professors here are known for being really great teachers and students love to take their classes just because they’re really interesting.

Student Body
I’d say that the typical student that goes here is very passionate about what they’re doing. They’re here because they want to get a good education, but not necessarily because they want to go to a name brand school. Even though this is a really prestigious institution, I don’t think people are here for the prestige, I think for the most part, students are really invested in what they’re doing.

In Closing...
I’d say in terms of student activities on this campus, students are really involved. And we have a very large programming budget. t’s just been amazing all the resources I have available to me. The University really looks out for its students!
