St. Louis is no New York.

Rating: 3/5 (44 ratings)
Introduction
New York is definitely much bigger than St. Louis.
My favorite thing about St. Louis and Wash U is that the campus is very close to downtown, so it’s 10 minutes or less just to get downtown, so it’s really easy to just go to a baseball game.

There’s definitely a lot of international students here. A lot of my friends are from different countries: Costa Rica, Trinidad, Korea, China - so there’s definitely a lot of diversity in that sense. You definitely get a lot of different perspectives on things.

Campus Life and Social Life
The majority of the classes are very small, but at the same time the intro classes are also on the big side. Like being a biology major I have to take a lot of big intro science classes so first year two of my science classes were probably average of 200 people. But once you get past that, that’s mainly specific to Science majors I would say, psychology, science, things like that.
Now I’m pretty much all, small classes. I’m in an 18 person class, and like a 9 person class so it’s definitely all discussion based to do readings and just discuss the readings and it’s not lecture based. I would say the professors here are really great. Definitely the professors are very highly qualified, pretty much as much as they will be anywhere. We’ve got Nobel Prize winners here. In the smaller classes, once you get into the upper level classes, the professor is going to know you and even in the larger classes I’ve been impressed with professors knowing your name.
Academics
I would say drinking is definitely more popular than drugs. The bar scene’s pretty good. In addition to downtown, there are bars really close around here. There’s an area called The Loop, which is maybe a half a mile down the road. That’s where I live now living off-campus.

Student Body
Then if we feel like going downtown, that’s always there and there’s another area called Clayden, which is the opposite direction of downtown. It’s also pretty close there are bars there too. There’s definitely a good variety of things to do in addition to the bars there’s also like on campus parties, you can go see a movie, go to the mall, whatever.

In Closing...
There’s plenty of things to do at Wash U!
