Very cool RA's

Rating: 3/5 (64 ratings)
Introduction
Good food, good housing included. It’s a really good school, you get a good education, but the social atmosphere is pretty good considering we’ve got a bunch of nerds going here.
One of the big reasons I went here was because I was going to be able to meet a lot of people from all over the place and all types of different backgrounds and—what’s going on—I mean, I’ve met a lot of people from all over the US and stuff like that. As far as cultures, as lot of people of similar cultures here just kind of stick together so just pretty much anybody of the same cultures mostly sticks with people of their culture. Not much mixing, I guess, but you’ll find that most places.

Campus Life and Social Life
It’s actually really odd for me to say that I’m in a fraternity because not only was I not considering joining one, when I came here, I had the attitude that I would never in my life consider joining a fraternity.

The scene is different here. The guys aren’t "let’s go pick a fight type guys." - the fraternities are mostly composed of people who would never consider being in fraternities. Most people are in the same situation as me. It’s just when you come here you realize that the whole scene is totally different, the guys are totally different. The fraternities actually have a big presence on campus.

Academics
I don’t think that as a freshman I can very much say the overall scene because I think it changes a lot between freshman year and the other years. Freshman year there’s not much, there’s not many people that are actually dating, it’s more hook ups I guess, but other years I think that changes a lot more. Drinking is a lot more common than anything else, which I guess is typical of a college.
I don’t go out to the bars much. Because they don’t allow freshmen to have cars so it’s a lot harder to get off campus, but lots of times they’ll have buses that take people down to bars like Thursday nights. I don’t usually go as much because it’s not really my scene, but as far as drinking here, you can do whatever you want, you can get away with anything.

Student Body
You’re allowed to have alcohol in the dorms and like you can keep your room open and the RA’s don’t give a shit. The RA’s, they’re not down with things like smoking pot, but drinking is absolutely fine. I mean as long as they’re not a total nuisance, they’re not going to give you any trouble.

In Closing...
There’s a big difference between the old dorms and the new dorms. The new dorms are really nice as far as living standards, but the community on the floors kind of sucks because they have big, long doorways and people don’t interact as much. The older dorms, they aren’t as high quality, but there’s a lot more interaction between people and the community’s really good.
