IntroductionI honestly didn't choose Wayne State University. I was originally at Xavier University of Louisiana, located in New Orleans, but Hurricane Katrina ruined my experience. I'm originally from Detroit, so Wayne State was the closest thing to home. If you are quiet, and you enjoy a one-on-one learning experience, Wayne State is definitely not the place for you!
Campus Life and Social LifeWayne State University is a HUGE school. Therefore, there is ALWAYS something going on. If you need something to do, Wayne State will have some kind of event for you. There are so many events, you can't keep up with them all.

AcademicsI am a Biology Major with a minor in Vocal Performance. While at Wayne State, I focused on music. The Music Department is excellent! The Vocal Music Department, on the other hand, doesn't provide the greatest experience. If you are not accustomed to a mixed enviroment, you might want to consider another school. I was in the Women's Chorale and I experienced slight racism. The Professors really do care, no matter what department you are in. But, if you have a large lecture class, you must let your teacher know you exist! For example, in my Latin class, the teacher moved my grade from a D to C because he knew how hard I worked. My roommate took the same class and failed because the teacher just didn't know her well enough. The workload is really not bad. Most teachers will structure their classes so that there is only 2-3 tests per semester.
Student BodyThe "typical" student is a Caucasian or Middle Easter male/female. There is also a large percentage of African Americans. The school is so big, that is truly a melting pot.
In Closing...Although I didn't completely enjoy my experience at Wayne State University, a lot of my friends really enjoyed it. Give it a try if you really like a large learning enviroment.
