Beast of the Big East

Introduction
Biggest piece of advice I would give anyone considering WVU is always make time for your homework. I know as boring as that sounds but WVU has some banging night life and I've seen many people get swept up in it way too many times and have failed out or just continue to stay, fail, and party. I chose to come here cause I wanted to be away from home but close. I have the distance away from my parents, but I have the comfort knowing I have some family in the immediate area working and living in Morgantown which provides me a little safetly blanket in case I ever need anything in an emergency. The one type of student who should avoid WVU is one who is super shy and would rather be alone basically everyday or just sitting in their room playing video games or crying on the phone to the boyfriend or girlfriend you left at home who is still in HS or at another institution. WVU is a very social campus and if you are not social then the people will treat you kinda crappy cause once your set in those ways its like animal kingdom they suddenly know you don't want to have anything to do with them or something.

Campus Life and Social Life
Campus life at WVU is nonstop. Sports are outrageous here, if you have TV you should know. Basketball and football are huge on campus and getting to the games make you an addict. Even if they lose it's like I can't wait 'til the next one when we kick whoever's butt. Partying continues from Tuesday through Saturday usually leaving Sunday for recovery and Monday to get classwork in and done before the week starts. Bad part of it is, you can get sucked into the parties and the alcohol fast as many here have and it can do harm or it can do good. Just depends on the person but I recommend taking it easy and getting out when you think its okay to. Not much to say for clubs WVU has a wide variety but not many students in them. Lots of club sports as well. Two which should be legit teams but the university is a bit of a cheapskate and so we suffer watching them get nothing for playing in outside of town. Weekends are nuts. Depending on whats going on. Football game evenings are crazy so if we just won clubs will be packed and houses will be full. If it's basketball same thing just more of a home scene middle of the week bars and houses during the end. The burning thing still happens occasionally but don't let that scare you. I think everyone has calmed down some and nothing happened when the Sugar Bowl happened so I think everyone has gotten over the burning thing.
Academics
Academics are decent, some programs offer less than huge universities though. A lot of decent professors. Sometimes the professors are hard to get in touch with cause many are teaching many classes due to the low staff ratio compared to the increasing number of students. I think Chemistry, Math, and Biology have some of the worst professors and TA's. TA's are made up mostly of international students some, not to sound mean, don't speak English very well. There is a definite language barrier between students and TA's on campus. The university and the departments haven't done much to help with this matter as many students are getting a tad worried about grades cause the TA can't explain plainly the assistance and such. Workload is what any college has. Some have lots of reading. Some have papers and quizzes. Most of the classes I've been in seem to require lots of reading and little to no teaching in class making the student pick up the bulk of the work thats brand new.

Student Body
Typical student here is one you would probably see on MTV. Lots of loud, wild, and crazy folks all ready for fun. Mostly the students hail from New Jersey with another large portion from PA then WV and MD. Mostly alot are into parties but more are into studying at the library, working out at the recreation center which is full everyday, and barhopping along with attending sports events.

In Closing...
WVU is a cool place. It's great if you're into lots of stuff and being out there. It's a huge socially involved school both friend-wise and academic and organizational. It's a matter of self control to get through the more party and do nothing scene. Morgantown's got a lot to do and more coming, lots of new places to work and live and the rebuilding of 3 neighborhoods taking place within the next few years will make Morgantown a metropolis with 3 new skyscrapers in the works for downtown including a multi-level apartment building, condos, stores, and offices, and a theater there will be lots to keep a college student busy doing something when the homework is done.
