When Count Bertram is ordered to marry his mother's ward Helena, love quickly turns into hate and peace into war. Bertram joins the army and flees, while Helena follows him across France and Italy, scheming to win him back. In this bittersweet comedy, Shakespeare explores love and war, and love as war, and leaves us wondering if a good end can really rectify a bad beginning.
