SCeNe 6 -- Mickey Rat at the Muleskinner January 1989

I was introduced to Mark, who ran the Student Cable Network on the Campus of Central Missouri State University by a mutual friend named Melody. Mark and I became good friends and together we dreamed up this show called SCeNe 6. The name taken from SCN or the Student Cable Network and the cable channel 6 where you could find it in the dorms. Mark trained me on some of the cameras and equipment, much of which he made function as the powers that be that ran SCN really didn't seem to care that it functioned and definitely didn't seem to want to encourage students to use it. So, Mark, being a techical wiz, took this collection of video junk they bought with grant money from the government, and hooked it all together and made it work. I came along in the Spring semester of 1989, and found a new vocation, which is why programs such as the Student Cable Network existed. So, one cold snowy night in January, I checked out the cameras I was trained on, with Mark's help, and went across McGuire street from the campus to a place called the Muleskinner/McGuire street cafe. Muleskinner is a popular name in Warrensburg with the school newspaper being called "Muleskinner" and with the towns history as being the largest depot for mules heading to war in Europe during World War I. It was a popular bar with all the students, but the university didn't seem to like a live music venue right next to the dorms. So, as I am now looking back on my archives more comprehensively than I have done before, I decided to upload this little piece of history. The band that was playing was Mickey Rat. This style of music that a lot of cover bands played was extremely popular in the 80's. Though "alternative" music was starting to become popular and would alter peoples tastes when it comes to live music venues, for all of the 80's, if you walked into a bar with live music, most probably, this is the type of band you would see.
