One big reason I applied to MIT and not, for instance, CalTech was because I wanted to be able to continue studying humanities. At MIT, you can major in theater arts, literature, music, writing, and so on. Granted, there are very few people who major in humanities here. MIT: IHTFP
You have to be slightly masochistic to want to go to MIT. IHTFP is the school mantra, and it stands for "I Hate This Fucking Place" because at some point, after 4 all-nighters in a row, you WILL rue the day you passed up admission to that nice easy Ivy League school. MIT is not the place for everyone, but if you want the best education there is- and you're willing to sacrifice a good chunk of sweat and blood- it might be the place for you. MIT: MIT diversity and other bits and bobs
Freshman year the classes were very large- we took the requirements, physics, chemistry, calculus. But now because I’m really into the biology major there smaller and more personal and the professors they interact with you more and I really enjoy the interaction. The stress level for me was more for the MCAT than the workload for MIT. Previous semesters it was extremely high – I was taking a lot of classes and tests every two weeks so it was extremely high.
