UIC's a good choice for a strong public school located next to downtown Chicago. About half the class commutes from home and half lives on campus. If you can afford it, try to live in the residence halls your first year. Commuters, while they could get involved, mostly don't - as beating rush hour traffic becomes high on the priority list. UIC - University of Illinois - Chicago: Its decent, but overrated
To be completely honest, people at UIC think it is better than it is. If you look at admits to grad schools, med school, jobs, and so forth after undergraduate school, its not that great. The social life isn't that amazing, and overall its an average school. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it just is. Also, the most popular majors here are computer related or science related, which leads to a disproportionately high percentage of minorities.

I would leave UIC as my final option. I chose UIC because I did not know any better back then. It sounded like a good idea. Close to chicago, go home after school, I knew a lot of people. But those ended up being the problem. If you can, consider other schools first, and always go visit the UIC campus before making any decisions. Campus was modeled after brutalism, meaning a lot of concrete, which doesn't look inviting (looks more like a prison).
