University of Michigan: Overrated depending on your standards
Do not trust many of the rankings of UMich. The academic reputation is exaggerated due to the high quality of Ross and engineering. LSA is average at best. Hence, if you're a student interested in the general arts and sciences, this university should not be your first choice if offered alternate options. Many of the students here are the 'work on weekdays, party on weekends' type so don't expect many brilliant and ultra-passionate students of the Harvard/Stanford/Yale/etc league. You won't find ...

University of Michigan: Bureaucracy!
This is a huge, amazing school... unfortunately nobody cares about you here (at least that's how it feels) and you're pretty much on your own. It was a tough transition to get used to, but on a good note if you can make it here you can make it anywhere. I'd say this place is worth it in spite of all of its problems if you're in-state or have some sort of scholarship, otherwise look elsewhere.

The University of Michigan is a big school. If you wish to succeed here, you have to figure everything out on your own. No one is going to hold your hand. Your advisor is only there to answer questions, and it's possible to go all four years without seeing him/her.
