2 years of active Amnesty International work
1 very successful Year of Model United Nations
the main point i'm going to argue in one or more of my essays is before i even entered high school i took the registrar book and planned out how i was going to execute high school and i planned to take more ap classes than i could handle while maintaining a 4.0 on purpose because i wanted to expand my horizons and learn as much as possible.
I'll be applying to six schools. 5 prestigious schools and a safety i have yet to choose.
1. Yale University
I like the environment in both human capital and landscape. I already know I would like one of their specialty majors (directed studies). They would appreciate my musical talent/passion I think and I would have fun in their "precision" marching band (i operate at a much higher level than this ensemble but that does not mean i'll turn down some good musical fun and appreciation of my skills). It's a great school obviously and in terms of the people I think it would be great. The university doesn't need any beautification but I would be very honored to continue the project at a New Haven public school. Amnesty International probably has a branch there and model un probably does as well. The veterans thing i don't see being there but i would be honored to start it up.
2. Columbia University
Same story as yale. much less chill, but i am becoming a more serious worker anyway and there are a few more job opportunities as well. I've already visited and i like the setting and campus. normally i don't like new york but they're located in a more chill part of town and the campus kind of hides all the craziness outside. Even though I don't like nyc that much in terms of my personal enjoyment its better than new haven and i can still do the beautification project in a public school.
3. Northwestern University
Less strong on academics (but hey that's compared to two of the best schools so its not very fair to compare them) but the location is tops. its 12 miles north of chicago, one of my favorite big cities. the campus is really nice. my music will be very much appreciated and there is much more for me to do musically. they have a strong music program and a drumline more to my liking.
4. Norwich University
Nobody will know this one lol. It's like all the military academies rolled into one, then smaller, and with very strong academics. If I go here I go into the army, navy, or marines (as an engineer) after getting a very good degree. I would probably serve the minimum number of tours (maybe plus one) and leave the armed forces. the location is great. very close to private family land with a lake and a house. there isn't much to complain about here. i'm just not totally convinced I want to be in the military yet.
5. Claremont McKenna College
One of the claremont colleges in claremont california. I'm warming up to cali in general (i hate la its a horrible place) and this is one of the few schools i would apply to there that i also have a chance to get into. Small school. Not sure if that's for me but we'll see.
6. Safety
Probably U Oregon, Portland State, or U Portland.
Note: I realize the first five there are extremely selective. I would be overjoyed to get into one of those schools.
