Forum Topic: "Big GPA problem!"

Post a new topic
I recently applied to a number of prestigious institutions. Little did i know that my high school did not have a weighted GPA, so the GPA did not factor in honors/AP classes. After my transcripts were sent out, I argued this with the school, and the entire GPA system was reworked to use the state system. Upon getting credit for the honors and AP classes, my GPA jumped from a 3.22 to a 3.92. A couple of weeks have passed, and I am beginning to receive letters of rejection from some colleges. I know it wasnt becuase of SAT scores (680 700, 770; 2150) so I am wondering if the fact that my GPA was very low affected the decision. If so, is there anything I can do about it?

You can always reapply, and even if you reapply your unweighted GPA is very low so I don't know if you weighted GPA will do very much to help you. Hopefully you have some fallback schools

I've heard of people that have been rejected but then reapplied and got accepted.

I had the same dilemma with my school, but ultimately learned that the Universities factor your weighted GPA not your high school. If you take an ap or honors class your gonna get the extra point. The universities will see your weighted dont worry.
