Forum Topic: "Stuck w/ 4 top schools and 7 backups"

Business major

Top 4 colleges
Indiana University-Bloomington
Santa Clara University
University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign
Washington University-St. Louis

7 backups
University of San Francisco
Depaul University
Loyola University Chicago
University of Illinois-Chicago
St. Louis University
University of Minnesota-Twin Cities
Marquette University

Need help deciding which is best for business major, possibly economics.

I do not want to go east coast towards New York,Massachusetts, etc in spite of the good choices.

I have my top 4 schools that I would go to if accepted.

I have 7 colleges to choose from in case i was denied from top 4 colleges. Need help to choose which one is the best of the rest.

Fit of school is most important factor for me. Good major and career path are second. Cost is third. Diversity and Community is fourth.

My thinking is Santa Clara University or University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign from top 4. Washington University-St Louis is good but not sure if I will be accepted at all.

My other thoughts for the seven remaining would be choosing between Loyola University Chicago or University of Illinois-Chicago.

Other reccomendations of universities in the West coast or in the Midwest are welcome focusing on business majors.

I may be slightly biased as I am currently attending IU, but I would say that its the best fit for you. I am currently a Finance major, and trust me its tough but eventually rewarding. The business school is one of the best in the nation, and career services were recently ranked among the top 5 in the nation. In addition the Kelley school of business is the only school in the nation where all departments rank in the top 20, and trust me most are significantly higher ranked.
The IU scholarship fund is very well endowed considering that its a public school, so that is something that must be considered also.
Personally I believe that IU is one of the most under-rated universities in the nation, as its Music school(#2), Law school, Journalism school, and SPEA(tied with Harvard for #1) are all well ranked. Trust me, you won't be surrounded by a bunch of the stereotypical public school yobs, IU is a great school!

Come visit, the campus is nearly is beautiful as the people! You won't go wrong in choosing IU!

GO HOOSIERS!!!

Indiana University is a good choice. No doubt. Out of state tuition could still be a lot compared to other schools in spite of scholarships and grants. But if it is the one of best schools to prepare me for business, negligible differences in cost should not matter. the other programs that are good too give me flexibility in case I want to change majors. I know Indiana University is not that diverse but there are always different groups of people to find in activities. I heard it has beautiful people, that is just icing on the top of the cake.

thanks for the advice

A good school for business in the west coast is University of California-Berkeley if you can get in. If you had to choose from one of your backups, you should choose DePaul. It is a much better school for business than Loyola or UIC and everybody that goes there absolutely loves it!!
