Forum Topic: "is being international student helping when I apply to college?"

Post a new topic
I am an international student who has lived in U.S. for five years.
Fluent in English.
Since my high school does not have asians and international students people keep telling me that I have a great chance to get into the college because they like diversity.
But I don't think being an international student or being asian would help me that much to get into a college because I know there are lots of Asian kids in great school..like California..I heard it's insane so I am not going to apply to CA (it's not that I am a racist, but I want a diversity too)
But I am wondering if that is true..
if it helps..how much?

If you are applying to private schools, perhaps, if you're applying to publics, no. For publics, they evaluate in-state, out-of-state, and internationals, in that order.

Idk I think that international is wack in a way. But I really dont think it makes much of a difference. If you have ever visited berkeley it seems like 90% international. And it's a public being payed by california tax payers so its kind of bogus... Im drunk by the way so dont listen to what im saying

Well, I would say... be smart about it. If you're Chinese asian, you should know that there're lots of them in California. SO, that will make ur chance smaller. But in some uni like Duke, where there're very few chinese, you will have bigger chance of getting in. This is because the top scorers asians usually dont even bother to apply to Duke.. they would rather apply to ivy league. So, I would say it depends on the school.

well, it might give you 2-3% more advantage.. but nothing more.
don't rely on it. compete like you are an american.
