Forum Topic: "Military Service ?"

Post a new topic
Is service in the miltary after high school and before college viewed positively by colleges with highly competitive undergraduate admissions ? If the candidate completes 'Officer School' and finishes that time in the military as an Officer, ex. 2nd Lieutenant, is that experience viewed as significant or not by the undergraduate admissions offices ?? Thanks.

You need a college degree to become an officer.

Dear hbrassmassery,

Thanks for the message. I live in Singapore. After pre-university education here, all males enter the Singapore Armed Forces. I have just finished 9 weeks of Basic Military Training (same language used in the US Air Force) and have been selected for Officer School. I'm doing 40 weeks of Leadership training and then become a Platoon Commander, 32 men including the Platoon Sargeant and me (2nd Lieutenant). The full commitment is 22 months which ends for me in December 2009. I'll be only 20 yrs, my 21st birthday is in June 2010. I hope this effort will be viewed positively by University Admissions in the US ??
