I've been looking into Carleton College, and I really like it. They are pretty small, and I heard it was very competitive to get in (30%). I have a 3.8w GPA, I did not do well freshmen year, but since then I have done really well. I take only honors and AP classes [with a non-honors thrown in, like music, b/c its a graduation req.]I took AP biology, AP english, and AP European History, my junior year. I got a B in the AP bio class, and a 5 on the exam. I only got 4's on the other 2, but i got A's in those classes. I scored a 30 on the ACT [I plan to retake it]. I am president and co-founder of my school's vegetarian club, I'm in academic decathlon, Ukrainian club, I work part time, and I volunteer at my local library. I plan on taking more AP's and honors, senior year. Are my chances good at Carleton? Would ED significantly help my chances?

Analytical processing, ie: Combining all current factors that support your resume. Taking into account the acceptance rate of/into your college of choice (undergraduate degree). Resulting in an approximate percent chance of acceptance.

Good luck.
- Princeton It's definitely a possibility. My brother applied about 6 years ago (not ED) with similar statistics as yours, but perhaps less AP classes. He was placed on the waiting list and never accepted. It's a tough school but your resume sounds pretty impressive!
- bsmdncechick23 thanks, I think I will definitely apply ED then
- edylina06 your chances are deffinitely better early, i think its something like 40% acceptance early. My host family's kid applied early to Carleton like 3 years ago and he didnt do as well as you in school or testing and he goes there so hope that makes you feel better. good luck
- hejhej17 that makes me feel so much better! thank you!
im going to just focus on improving my stats then, with SAT II's and retaking the ACT.
- edylina06 i think you have a good chance, but to be honest a 3.8 weighted GPA is usually a little low for Carleton. What is it unweighted (since that's what they'll be looking at)? And I know I shouldn't have to tell you this, but just in case: make sure you have a safety. Carleton isn't a safety for anyone.

yeah, I know it is [due my truly disastrous freshman year]. Which is why I am so nervous. I do have safeties, but I really do not want to go anywhere else [it isnt my safety, its my first choice, everything else is an EXTREMELY distant second]. Maybe if I add more details. I come from a lower class immigrant family in Chicago. We didnt have many resources when I started highschool [we couldnt afford them, and my family didnt see the need for them], such as a computer with internet access, etc [which at my school, which is a magnet school I tested into, is very crucial, teachers put assignments online, etc]. Most of my inability to pull off a stellar gpa was due to to this. I dont like making excuses which is why, I tried my absolute hardest to fix my gpa, but sadly its still not great.
