I'm thinking about outdoorsy schools like Middlebury, dartmouth, and Colgate.... What's the ideal academic background and what's life as a student. I heard it could get boring since they are far from some cities??

Okay I can tell you about Dartmouth...I am completing my first yr. there, but I'm transferring to UPenn this Sept. If your into the outdoors,Greek Life, and alcohol...it's PERFECT for you, But,if you're like me- a city girl @ heart..you'll hate it...the food's pretty good here,so are the profs, but like the informational video on this site says...Dartmouth is far,FAR way from civilization...anything else you want to know feel free to ask me.
- mzphilly If you're a country bumpkin, a lover of the outdoors, or simply anxious to be liberated from city-life, then Middlebury is for you! The town revolves around campus life, and the two exist symbiotically. There are some quaint shops and restaurants in the downtown. If you like winter sports then this place is also for you. Nightlife is sorta bland, most likely a lot of dorm parties.
- Maxim B I have heard rumors that Dartmouth can be incredibly boring, and that there are a lot of boring people who go there. But at the same time, the campus can be beautiful, even in the midst of the freezing cold. I have heard a lot of students party it up (a la intoxicants) to keep things fun and interesting, so if you're not into that scene, it might not be the best choice for you.
- Axia College of University of Phoenix My dad went to Dartmouth, and I know it gets COLD there in the winters. I also heard the dorms there are SUPER nice, but that it's pretty much on its own, and far away from civilization.
- Aimee my brother went to dartmouth and he loved it. the city is small, but the campus is fun. a lot of parties. one plus for a small town is that you'll never spend any money.
he had really great study abroad opportunities with dartmouth, and spent a lot of time researching in cuba, along with scotland and argentina.
