Hey I am going to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo next year and I will try to help you out.
To me the only CSU's worth going to are:
Cal Poly SLO: Extremely good school, in a gorgeous town about 3 hours south of San Francisco. It is a pretty big party school, but when you graduate your degree will be worth something. It is generally considered equal to the mid tier UC's in prestige (UCSB, UCI, UCD), and is by far the best CSU. Really strong in Agriculture, Architecture, Business, Engineering, and Sciences. The liberal arts department is also reputable. Cal Poly is the perfect mix of prestige, workload, and social scene.
Cal Poly Pomona: Honestly a gorgeous campus, in a really nice city (Pomona).. Definitely worth looking at. What lacks is a party scene. The campus is pretty much dead from what I hear.
San Diego State University: Very far from NorCal, but at the same time not out of reach. Located in a really nice city obviously, San Diego. A complete party school (ranked #3 by Playboy magazines party university rankings). The school tends to surprise incoming freshman in course load difficulty, and it has become a pretty competitive college to get admitted to (31% acceptance rate).
Sonoma State: Extremely good for nursing from what I hear.. Also its located in Napa Valley, a pretty glorious part of Ca. The best education for your money, it only has around 8000 people and over 4000 students live on campus, which makes it have a pretty big party scene. The dorms are really nice, and it is becoming to be one of the more popular CSU's.
Long Beach State: Nice location, big time college feel, and is decently reputable.
Chico State: Really nice campus, major party school, lots of fun, and has a decent reputation.
Humboldt State: Idk... I wouldn't be very into it. Lots of Marijuana.
Good Luck,
- oop
