The Ivies are good schools; no one should really deny that. But do you really need them for undergrad? Not at all! There are places where you can get a lot better undergrad education than at the Ivies. If you really want to go, why not do it for graduate school? That's where a lot of the recognition is anyway

i personally don't think people are bragging. Ivy league schools are great schools and people want to get in because they are some of the best schools in the nation. many students want to have a great education to prepare them for life after college and ivy league schools are great at doing that. Also students who go to ivy league schools don't study 24/7, there are students at other schools who study a great deal more than students at ivy league schools.

I am an accepted student of Williams College (I doubt that you know what it is, you haven't even heard about the SAT, and GPA) so Williams is not an Ivy but the #1 liberal arts college in the US.

no school requires more than 6 hours regularly of studying. MIT tops that with math/eng majors, but most ivies are 3-5 daily, which isn't so bad with a whole bunch of other intelligent ppl in a group and u have the world's best an e-mail away.

and wtf, do you really think working hard is limited to pre-med and pre-law? what the fuk is wrong with you? for one there' engineering majors that should be obvious, as well as really difficult programs that vary from school to school. yale's directed studies program is way harder than pretty much any pre-med/law work at most schools.

u can't bitch about ppl wanting to work hard and get into good schools. if u have a valid argument adressing every little tiny feature of two schools and can explain why one is better, go for it.

and ur generalizing the **** out of ivies:
harvard: yes, not the best undergrad system b/c the teachers don't like to teach, but the curriculum is still damn good. it's fairly big compared to some of the others. ppl are mildly snobby there, yes, but u make it sound like they're gutting babies.
yale: smaller than harvard, but bigger than princeton. ppl are CHILL with eachother. they're competetive with themselves. nobody's a real b1tch like you.
princeton: ppl are a kinda competetive but not like harvard. it's pretty small, but it's a great school too. they've got a killer lacrosse team too, best D in the world along with their music program which i like a LOT.
dartmouth: smaller and in the middle of nowhere. ppl are pretty chill, this is like the more alternative ivy.
cornell: easiest ivy to get ino, hardest to stay in. lots of work, but the campus is great and they have great sports going for them.
columbia: in the city. ppl there end up being like ppl in new york: fast, kinda bitchy but that's cuz they got sh1t to do, but they get a LOT out of being in the city. the school is great i really like what they did with the washed brass/copper.
brown: the stereotype is probly a little over the top, but a good chunk of ppl at brown smoke weed. how does that make u feel? pretty ****ty. if i went there i probly would too. ppl work hard and they learn, but never say that ivy matriculants don't know how to chill out and have fun.
PENN: lol i don't know much about thi school but my frien'ds brother goes there and he talks about weekend parties all the time and he's like a strict little asian dude.

The Ivy leagues,Good luck getting in, academics doesn't get you in(necessairly),I've known many kids who Have top grades and nearly have perfect scores on the Sat/act and 4's and 5's on the AP's. They have had extracurricular activities that are a bunch. they still get rejected. My class of 2008 ,College applications was a very scary year .it was at an all time High,even Higher rejections at top-notch schools. Be very afraid because the classes of 2009 and beyond are even smarter and more talented. Early Desicions at several schools have been ELIMINATED including Harvard (makes your chances even lower!) I'm not saying that if you're almost perfect Academically/Extra-co's that you're not getting into an ivy or a top-notch school,I'm saying that Ivy-league is a lot based on Luck and Hard -work. Ivies don't care how smart or perfect a person is,they care about your talent(s),How unique are you from the pack? They don't just care about your grades in school all the time they want to see what you accomplished(state championship,All-State choir,and many other things) They want someone who is passionate about something. They want people who are the average joe,the not-so average Joe in high school. They want people who worked in HS,people who had to balance everything,people who had to help pay the bills because their family couldn't afford something and went to school. They want people who live in geographic areas that are underrepresented(i.e. the south my home,alaska,and many other places throughout the country and world),they want people who are racially/Ethically traditonally underepresentive. The Ivy-league is supposed to be the field of dreams,desire,they want to shape people. Going to an Ive league is not necssairly your golden ticket to sucess. If you major in something that is not gonna get anywhere then it wouldn't matter what school you go to. In fact some Ivies(i.e. Yale and Harvard) espeically hate their undergraduates who go onto their law schools,they want to make Law school available to other public/private schools. Make sure you really want to go to an Ivy,make sure it's not your parent's dream and it's your dream. They are tons of wealthy people who went to other colleges besides the ivies there called lawyers and doctors. For your information theU.com is not just about discussing college,it is also about networking with friends,meeting new people,making more friendships,sharing intrests. It is pretty much like a glorified Myspace/facebook. sure it is not my business to look at forums about "chances" if I don't want to. there is other things beside college to talk about. The great class of '08 actually did that. If you really want to connect with friends the network on this site,it gave me more friendship opportunities. It is about being social and looking for advice on colleges/Careers.Actually vist the campus you want to go to. Reviews can only say so much unless there redundant. No one really cares about your perfect grades,a lot of schools throw your profile(application) in the trash,if you applied to Texas public schools they would not care what your GPA is,All they care about is if your're in the top ten percent or not. Alot of Midwestern/ Southern schools only look at your rank. It was fun to look at people's "chances" to get into schools,the insight was good but not remotely accurate, 90% of the students got rejected. The game of college Admissions is a very harsh world,it is like swimming in a tank of sharks, you don't know if your your gonna live or die. Lastly it ultimately up to you as person to suceed wherever you may go to. I'm damn proud where I'm going to this fall(Texas Tech). It took me 4 yrs of high School to realize where I could really fit in/like. On a side note the ivy's Music program isn't all that great unless you go to Cornell,princeton(jazz program),Yale(primarily graduate school),The public schools(ex.Indiana U tied for number 1 with Eastman/Juillard/Cincanatti conservatory),private schools and liberal arts colleges like Trinity University in San antonio,TX ,and SMU in Dallas still kick your ass(Ivies) in music. If you don't believe ask me a Person who made the All-State Choir(Texas) in the hardest state to make All-state choir. Who is a college musican recruit to UMiami Fl,Ole Miss,Georgia,Abilene christian,SMU,and tons of other schools.

i'm aware of the lack of strength at ivies in music. however, i know i'm not majoring in music and can still get a great music education at any decent university. i like princeton because of its music program, but i like yale more for other reasons, like academics and things of that sort.

college counselor's are idiots. i know plenty of ppl that go to princeton and i asked my college counselor about it and he said u can't get in without a 4.0. none of those ppl had 4.0s. ever.

i know what i have to do to get it. and even if i do that there's a good chance i still won't get in. i really don't care that much. i'm applying to like 25 schools, so i think i'll be ok. i'm pretty sure you don't know the secret to getting into schools no offense. i just think i have it figured out. it's a crap shoot, but great academics + following extracurricular passion = better chances. so i'll do that. end of story.

Actually I agree with you about the immigration problems. Present-day immigration policy is not at all what it used to be. Letting in the vast crowd of dumb, uneducated, Mexican immigrants, who can't even speak English, is a HUGE mistake.
